Windows 10 home 2004, update on metered connection.

I have done clean install of windows 10 home 2004. In settings, I have put wifi as metered connection. Previously windows update used to show time of my previous update done by me as last checked. But now it shows time in which I have not checked. That means update checking is done even in metered connection. But updates are not downloaded and installed. Only checking done.

If you want finer control of Windows Updates, look into the free tool Windows Automatic Updates Manager.

Windows checks for updates using Task scheduler and its checks are shown in Settings, Windows update just as your own manual checks are.

Windows always has checked for updates despite a metered connection.

If the OP has set connections as metered via a Registry hack (as opposed to "Network & Internet)", s/he may expect to see something like the following:

    Thanks to all who responded.
OldNavyGuy, I donot want finer control other than what is offered by windows.
Matthew Wai, Thanks. I have one metered connection from network settings only, not through registry.

Try3, windows might have checked for update even in metered connection. But it was not shown in update page as last checked. It always showed when I checked previously and updated even if it is 2 or 3 days before.

The one you have does not work. If you want a workable one, run the script "Metered or unmetered.cmd" mentioned in the following tutorial:

Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update

The scripts are not third-party applications.
