Have you tried uninstalling the update(s).

Start > Settings > Update and security > View Update History (on right) > Uninstall Updates


I'm the opposite to you. By checking for updates you have become a seeker. You are testing some of what other will get on Patch Tuesday. I would just let them happen without checking. I have my updates set to delay installation for 7 days, Feature Updates for 60.

Of course if you want to install asap I would look at Imaging.

Sounds like you are not Imaging your device. I strongly recommend you start. I recommend Macrium Reflect but there are lots of tools out there.

The Macrium software is free and is a reliable method to restore your Windows installation to a working state, be it bad update, bad storage drive or finger error.

With any Imaging tool, create and test the rescue (boot) media. Part of the test is the booting to the program and the second part is to ensure you can navigate to your Images (backups).

I backup regularly and keep several versions allowing me to go back in time. If your data is part of your Windows partition you do have to account for the fact that a restoration will overwrite data.

I keep my data in a separate partition because of this.

Could try from Advance Startup Options.

Hold shift key down and click Restart. (Option 2) of this tutorial.

Then Troubleshoot > Advance Options > Uninstall Updates

If this just happened, last 24 hours or so, your Windows.old folder should still be there unless you have cleaned it out. That being the case (I hope still there), you can "Un-Seeker" your self by going to Updates and Security>Recovery, and roll back to 18362 (1903/1909).

See if it will allow you to.

For clarification was this the update to 2004 you were doing or were you already on V2004?

Alternatively, if you wanted a quick way to check if a WU is installed, you can use my batch script. The batch script can also uninstall WU's either with or without a prompt.

[2] Goto the heading WU [ Windows Update ] - Check For KB OR Uninstall KB . . .
[3] Download and Run the .bat file.
