Only reason I asked is there seems to be more success with old hardware than newer. Your Dell is 4th gen. Not ancient by any means, just may not fall into the Known Issues trap.
Agreed, and MS seem to think 'old is best' too. My first machine to be offered 2004 on the 27th May, within 15 minutes of the official release, was System One from 2011 in my specs below.
With one notable exception all my machines were offered 2004 in descending order of age - oldest first, newest last. At no time did any of them say 'not quite ready'. They all went straight from nothing showing in Windows Update to 'The next version of Windows is available.... Download now'.
I see the exact same message on my system from 2014/15.
Its one of those alienware systems, those big pyramid things.
I dont get why i'm not offered the update though, i have none of the known issues, i dont have RealTek bluetooth.
Maybe its the Lsass thing, but that kinda counts for everyone.
5 years straight, always managed to update just fine right away (regardless if you feel thats smart or not), never been an issue, never had an issue.
Now all of a sudden its an issue? Microsoft is really vague.. if they automatically can detect it might be better to not offer the update yet, why cant it / they tell me whats exactly is wrong? So to speak.
To be clear, i used to have the whole "your system isnt ready yet, blablabla, you dont have to do anything".
For a week or two its "the update is being made ready for your system and will show here when ready" or somesuch, short text anyway.
Manual update search doesnt do anything.
I could just use the update assistent and manually update from 1909 to 2004, but if i dont know whats wrong or MIGHT be wrong.. its very frustrating this way.
Microsoft has made sure of that by essentially forcing you to update eventually regardless or else you basicly lose support after a while.. the F?
Edit : i do feel somewhat better that im not exactly alone in this, i see people with new and old systems with the exact same "problem" and texts since a week or two.
^^ same here. Two weeks ago i performed a clean instal of W10 (after upgrading from W7 for free). And i also could see the message from WindowsUpdate that my machine is ready for version 2004 and that i can start the upgrade process now.
But few days ago i noticed that version 2004 is not avaiable anymore for my machine. The message has changed to: ....the May 2020 update for your machine is being prepared....bla bla.. . The download/installation link for version 2004 isnt available anymore in WindowsUpdate.
Apparently nobody (that I've seen) is recently getting it thru Windows update, and all are getting the same message, or very similar. Nobody knows the exact reason in general or on their machine. MS may know, but isn't saying. Lots (millions) in the same boat.
Look on the bright side...... you haven't crashed yet trying to update, and I suggest you don't. It's not recommended. Yes, there are some who have updated test systems to see "What if", but they have the resources and backups to play with it. Normal everyday users should not even attempt it. It's a blessing millions don't even know it's there.
