Serious Updates Question

Thanks. Perhaps I didn't communicate clearly enough, though.

I have Pro. Been Using Windows since before 3.1 :) I have it set to notify and use WU Show/ Hide. The problem is in knowing which are worthy of installing, which to never install, and when an update for the nevers that likely will work without creating new issues comes back around even in the guise of a Feature Update. Just too many issues and updates. And too many sites which report issues but never seem to get to an "all clear". I thought there might be a place to monitor I had not found. Maybe even not obvious to me and here.

So the above reported from Belarc ( I did NOT recall it reported on updates) is a Service Stack (no worries), a .net I already have and is a bug that it gets reported as not installed and an update that causes at least Windows Print Spool errors. Why it does not report the others I ave blocked I am not sure. But I think I am ok for a while.

That was a great idea. I don't use Belarc often enough to recall it listed missing security updates. For me, listing 3 missing though I know I hid many more.

The current version is 9.6, and is downloaded from the link I provided.

One of the things I got from this question on updates was to learn about WUMgr. Thanks for that. It seems the update utility I might prefer from the several presented. But as many seem to mention, it lacks documentation. And yes I have followed the links on that but a few questions remain:

1. I have Win 10 Pro set to notify and it does. Once it does, I go to show/hide before opening the Update Options page, review what it shows and hide appropriately. Then install the ones I choose the next day when I am notified again.

Can I continue that, BUT instead of going to show/hide go to WUMgr when i get an Action Center notification to see what is presented and hide or install from there? In other words, without changing group policy, etc?

2. Will the updates I have previously hidden from show/hide appear as hidden in WUMgr?

3. The icons are not totally intuive. Some are. I assume:

Scan Download Save to disk? Delete Hide Link?

Appreciate a better understanding here.

4. What is "Register Microsoft Update"?

5. Is there a reason "always run as administrator" is an option? Is that in case there are non-admin users on the computer?

6. I assume this will not run on startup if "run in the background" is not selected.

I think the rest is obvious, but please comment if not. And if a better p[lace to post these, advise as well.

I would suggest looking into Windows Automatic Updates Manager.

It works well for Home edition users than don't have Group Policy.

However, we have used it for a while now on our Pro machines, and have never had an issue.

IMO, It has a better user interface, and has more functions, such as the ability to schedule with different settings, and do reboots when required.
