New Microsoft Edge Browser WU - no choice?

I have just booted up one of my remaining Windows 7 machines (yes, I do still have some). As of 25 June 'Edge for Windows 7' is a Recommended Update. If I hadn't got it set to '...let me choose whether to download and install them' I would have got it automatically.



Haven't seen it on any of my W10 machines though, 1909 or 2004.

If you have a look at the folder where Edge Chromium is installed, hopefully that will be in Program Files or similar. You could then use a 3rd party utility to force uninstall it by browsing to an exe file e.g. Wise Uninstaller (free) supports that, or Revo Pro.

Might be useful to advise its installation folder and that it is using the exe/dll model.

Seems to be here:

Thanks for the recommendations. I personally don't want to uninstall MS Edge at this time as I like to have at least one alternative to my primary browser. I would like to understand how to remove it though, as I'm certain many others would.

I checked Revo (free) uninstaller and couldn't find a successful method. I also looked at Wise (free) uninstaller and with all programs selected it does appear to have the option to uninstall the legacy version of Edge.






I've attempted to configure a Wise Custom uninstall and was just curious about the next step if I did want to uninstall MS Edge Chromium. Could I simply enter msedge.exe into the keywords dialogue box shown below? I'd give it a try if I knew there would be another opportunity to back-out. Not having much experience with Wise (free) uninstaller, I have no idea. Do you have any thoughts on this dalchina?

The details at this link sound a bit odd. The directions define how to take ownership of the folder and then simply delete msedge.exe via Windows Explorer or a Command Prompt. How does deleting the exe equate to an uninstall? I'm not trying to be a smart ass (this time), I'm just curious how well this operation would function.

Personally I'd be wary of simply deleting a folder like that myself. It's not by a MS rep - could simply be over-optimism. It would only be valid if the browser were effectively a truly portable program with no other related folders and no registry entries.

To take a trivial example- any start menu entries wouldn't be deleted.

Its only value to me, without having it installed, is in giving the installation folder and confirming as I thought Edgium isn't a UWP app.

I normally use Revo Pro or Geek uninstaller (as I said and you've found, Revo free does not support forced uninstall).

As to what would happen if you started the forced uninstall, that may depend on whether the program attempts to run its own uninstaller first, or whether it simply scans, then lists everything for approval.These programs run the uninstaller, then scan when uninstalling normally.

Thanks for that info, I couldn't agree more. Deleting folders or exe files hardly seems like more than a butchery of the computer files and programs, hardly an uninstall.

I.e. you can run that, then see what's found, then choose NOT to delete anything.

I watched the video in the link above, took a deep breath and punched the remove button after configuring a custom uninstall browsing to the Application folder and included the reference of msedge.exe . It appears as though it would/could have successfully uninstalled Edgium.

Someone else will have to report if the uninstall is successful or not. I was only curious and cancelled the operation after it reported 233 items would be removed.

Hi dalchina, I have just pressed preview voice in the settings, and it is working. It is also working in Edge Chromium, reading everything off the page. Hope this is what you were looking for.
