    What is this new app?

I saw it yesterday after the latest Win10 update, but it may have been there a while unnoticed. When i start to type "clean", as well as the "Disk clean up" option i get another proffered app called "avira_registry_cleaner_en.exe."

I've never installed this - or any other Avira app - on this laptop. If i left click on it, nothing happens; if i click the arrow the "Open" option opens explorer (This PC), "Open File Location" does nothing.

Any ides as to what has happened here and how to get rid of the entry? I'm running Win10 Home 1903.

    Thanks

[1] Have you checked you OS for anything to do with Avira?
[2] Other than the latest Win10 update, have you installed any other Software or Drivers?

It might have got installed [ silently ] when you installed some previous software and went un-noticed!

    I hope this helps!

You may have unknowingly installed it at some time. Such things are sometimes 'bundled' in with third party installers, particularly if you get them from places such as cnet. Does it appear in Settings > Apps? If so, you can uninstall it from there.

As none of the left-click options do anything it may not be installed any more and just be a left-over in the search index. If so, try rebuilding it.

Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10

If it still appears after that, try searching for avira_registry_cleaner_en.exe on your C: drive in File Explorer.

    Hello @autolycus,

If it is installed, here are a couple of links that might be useful . . .

How do I uninstall my Avira product?
    How to uninstall Avira Antivirus?

    I hope this helps!

Looks like a portable program - just a single file, so if it exists, simply delete it.

I should have mentioned that i had tried most of the suggestions including searching for the file, which proved fruitless. But i did the reindexing as recommended by Bree and that seems to have done the trick. Probably nothing to do with the update. Many thanks for all the replies.

Edit - i'm sure i've posted here several times in the past, but the site seems to think i'm a new member with 1 post (!)
Re- edit - no, it doesn't any more, now showing 12 (!!)
