How do I uninstall the Microsoft Edge "Update"

I have a problem with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI in that it shuts itself down within ten seconds. Adobe Reader does not exhibit this problem.

I have read in the Adobe Support Community that the recent update to Microsoft Edge-Chromium, (automagically updated here on 16 JUN 2020), might be the cause of this problem. I have tried, as suggested, to use the Start button, navigate to Microsoft Edge, but there is no "uninstall" option. There was mention of using Windows Power Shell as administrator if an uninstall option is not available, but no further details have been found.

Thus, I would appreciate your assistance with instructions on how to revert back to the previous version of Microsoft Edge.

I searched for info on which version of Microsoft Edge is installed here, but did not find any. In general, where should I be looking to determine the version level of the software that is installed on my PC? I cannot recall where I was looking in the past, but am sure that something exists.

    Thanks for reading this.

    Happy Father's Day!

    Be well and stay safe.

Try clicking on Setting - Apps and scrolling down to Microsoft Edge.

Thanks Winuser; I followed your instruction, and when selecting "Microsoft Edge" and/or "Microsoft Edge Update" I can see the app version numbers, i.e., version 83.0.478.54 for MS Edge; version 1.3.129.31 for MS Edge Update.
In both cases, the "Uninstall" button is grayed out; so, I continue to seek instructions on how to revert to an earlier version of Microsoft Edge.

On my computer I can select the Modify and Uninstall options under Microsoft Edge. The options are grayed out for Microsoft Edge Update.

Hi Vince, I haven't heard of anyone successfully uninstalling Edge. You would think rolling back wouldn't be impossible, but this is MS Windows we're discussing.

I know it wasn't what you had asked but if you're not married to using an Edge Browser, there's always Edge Deflector for use with another Chrome-based browser or Foxtana Pro for Firefox. I've been using the former along with Chrometana for years without any surprises.

A current updated version of Chrometana by Marc Guiselin is available here.

Could you provide a link to that advice?

[QUOTE=W10 Tweaker;1945408]Hi Vince, I haven't heard of anyone successfully uninstalling Edge. You would think rolling back wouldn't be impossible, but this is MS Windows we're discussing.
    Hi:

I use GOOGLE's Chrome browser, and am happy with it. I do have MS Internet Explorer vers 11 installed, only because it appeared to be required for running MS Money 2003 on Win 8.1; that was a Registry edit that worked.

I have no need for the MS Edge-Chromium here, and understand that it is a core part of Windows 10. However, I strongly suspect that the recent update to MS Edge (release 16 JUN 2020) is the reason why Adobe Acrobat Pro XI is messed up (no keep-alive). If I were able to rollback to the previous version of MS Edge, I would be happier; and, thereby, see if the Adobe issue is resolved. That is my goal: to regain use of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

Thanks for reading this and for your input.

Further to my post #3 you might consider:

    - and if not:

It seems it's conventionally installed, so you could use a 3rd party uninstaller e.g. Revo Uninstaller.

These uninstall programs by starting their installer, and should that fail, the subsequent scan deals with things.

    Update:

At this morning's revelry, my mind was partially recalling what I had recently read at the Adobe Community Forum. I seemed to recall something about using a command prompt to block a specific internet "parameter" by use of "DWORD" in the command line, IIRC. (I will need to relocate those details, when my time permits. )

This notion--"to disallow an internet connection during a restart-up of the Adobe Acrobat Pro XI app "-- has indeed yielded a partial solution to my present Pro XI app problem.

So, this is what I did and the observed results:

I first switched off electrical power to my (FiOS provided) router to disallow communication between my PC and the Internet. Then I restarted the Pro XI app, which now loads and "stays alive". Then, I switched the router power back on. At this point, I was able to print an important PDF document, which is required by the US government . And, I saw that the Pro XI app "stayed alive" for several hours afterwards. After printing that document, I closed the Pro XI app. At restart-up, the app again shuts down, within ten seconds.

I have not done extensive testing of the app's operation during the workaround scenario. During my testing effort, I did not notice any buttons that were grayed out, etc.

So, for the time being, my workaround, partial solution is:

    1. Switch off router power
    2. Restart Pro XI app; wait 15 to 20 seconds
    3. Switch on router power
    4. Use the Pro XI app

I can use my imagination as to why this workaround is allowing the Pro XI app to load and remain "alive". Perhaps someone else can offer some insight for "why".

It is apparent that during that initial ten second interval following restart, the fact that a connection to the internet exists is somehow causing the Pro XI app to shutdown.

I do not know if this Pro XI problem is related to the recent installation of Microsoft Edge-Chromium update. However, I do know that things went sour during my very first attempt to print a PDF document via use of the Pro XI app that followed the installation of the (16th JUN 2020 released) update. Thus, I continue to believe that there is a cause-and-effect relationship between the MS Edge update installation and the Adobe Acrobat Pro XI app's shutdown within ten seconds after being restarted.

Of course, I rather not switch off electrical power to the router each time that I want to load and use the Pro XI app, because doing so interrupts several other devices that use the router, including house telephone and television service, and (partial) iPad operation. Nor would I want to disconnect/reconnect the NEC cable between PC and router.

Can someone offer guidance on toggling open/close the internet network connection, specifically and only for my desktop computer? (I recently placed a Microsoft USB keyboard into use; it would be kool if the "Office" macro key could be re-programmed to toggle the PC-to-router interconnection.)

Sorry for being so long-winded when composing this update to my OP, but I wanted to share my experience with you guys/gals. Again, my thanks for reading this.

    Be well and stay safe.
    VinceB.
