Convert/upgrade preinstalled Windows OEM to Volume License

Hello to all,
I have a general question.

Is possible to convert or upgrade preinstalled Windows OEM to Volume License?

I purchased my new laptop with Windows 10 Home. How can I upgrade PRO it with Volume License Key without reinstalling the system and programs? I have legal academic VLSC agreement and keys.

I have found this tutorial, but I want to ask you, if it is correct and official way:

You may NOT legally upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro using the volume licenses. The only organizations that may do this are academic and nonprofit. Commercial and government can only use volume license SKUs to upgrade from previous business class (Pro, enterprise, etc...) operating systems.

But how? When I do Change product key, system say that is not valid. I am sure that is valid.

I have filled my system configuration in my profile, if necessary.

AFAIK it's not necessary to go changing registry entries to upgrade with a VL key.

I assume you have the standard Home edition (not single language etc)

Run ShowKeyPlus and check the activation count of your MAK



If all good, you can try upgrading with the default (generic) Pro key and activate with the MAK.

I see that it is possible to upgrade only to Windows 10 Pro Education.

I will check the conditions for using Windows 10 Pro Education, probably we can use it as a school. I have VLK for this version also.

I made a backup and gave a try with your key.
1) I switched to airplain mode.
2) I put in provided generic key - followed with upgrade and restart, product not activated
3) I changed the product key again, Windows 10 Pro VLK worked now well, product activated

I will need to test the theory that a MAK cannot directly upgrade Home - seems odd, but I will look amongst my keys for a Pro MAK with some activations left to test.
