You're right, I even uninstalled it via Windows Features. So it must be another thing.

I ended up doing an inplace upgrade, but then again, it seems a hard way of resolving issues, that's like prescribing a format for every issue...
It depends on the problem. Users don't necessarily know a precise magical fix for every problem.
If MS error messages were properly diagnostic, perhaps we'd have a better chance. But you have to realise the O/S, because of its legacy design, is extraordinarily vulnerable to both users and software. You can hack it, tweak it, write all over the registry...
Without free help from volunteers on forums like this MS would be in a mess.
