I don't suppose that this will help, but I thought I'd ask, exactly where is the user data that you're concerned about losing stored?

Thanks! That fixed the problem, sort of. I can now log in with the administrator account, but I can't figure out how to fix the problem keeping me from logging into my main account. Is this a common problem? Is it just a corrupt profile folder or something? How would I go about diagnosing what's stopping me from logging in?

Have you tried dalchina’s advice in post #10? If not, save that information in case it will make sense to do so.

Enable or Disable Log On Users with Temporary Profiles in Windows
Now that you can log in with the elevated administrator account, run winver to determine the Windows 10 version in use. Is it a Feature Update as you had suspected?
--- Then go to Windows Updates and see if there are any WU’s due.
--- Check on View Update History. Are there any failed WU’s?
Check for system restore points.
Verify security & maintenance
If Windows Defender is being used, see if there are any yellow or red markers that need to be addressed.
--- Just created an elevated administrator account and ran WD Offline scan: consider doing that.
Follow up with some maintenance by running disk cleanup.
EDIT. Also run SFC /SCANNOW & DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

Do you have Windows 10 Home or Pro?
--- I haven’t had to do this but I was hoping you could add a local administrator account but you need Windows 10 Pro in order to do that AFAIK.
When it looks like it’s ready to do, try to get into to get into your Microsoft account. When you changed the password on your cell phone you probably were assigned a verification code if I remember correctly. If so, see if it will work this time. Is the PC and cell phone linked together?
--- Follow Microsoft’s process to recover your Microsoft account. You might even have to verify your security settings: I hope you have that information in case it’s necessary to do that. If you have to do that, there is usually a 30-day time period before it takes effect. I haven’t had to use a full procedure to recover a Microsoft account as all I’ve to do so far is just verify the account. But see what you can do.

I looked at that, but that's not the error message I'm getting. I Googled it and tried a few fixes related to the problem I had. I tried a few fixes, but so far none have worked.
Supposedly, creating a new account and copying all the user files into that account will fix it. I'm trying that now, but it was a headache even creating the account—I ended up having to use a Windows 10 Education license I was planning on using for something else because it was running on Home. I'm copying the user directory over now. I hope it works.

So you are saying that when you try to sign in to your Microsoft account in the elevated Administrator account this doesn't work for you?
