Surely you WANT forced updates don't you for security updates which are usually critical.
Not forced updates. Forced upgrades to new versions of windows.

As for updates it's a case of manual checks then deciding what to install.

No. Because spend many hours over many weeks tweaking windows to make it work in ways that suit me plus I remove all the stuff I don't want.

So I stay on the same version until end of support. Then I upgrade.

Each to their own I guess. I dont do much tweaking so I tend to update as soon as they're out.

Forced upgrades can be prevented by metered connection, which I use.
You have to do manual checks regularly if you use Sledgehammer, which does not check for updates.

MPSAN has Win 10 Pro. Pro has features (defer and notify) that normally ensure there are no unexpected updates.

I have those set, and don't get any. No need for bodges, fixes, 3rd party tools, unless... you have compatibility issues or reach and end of service life situation when MS eventually ignores deferral.

unless using Win10 Home edition - not everyone using Win10 can upgrade from home to pro
3rd party tools may be needed for "home" users

I use Windows 10 Home. So third party tools it is.

maybe you forgot to hide/block the KB4023057 update which seems to be one of those updates that "trigger" those "forced upgrades"

I make sure I keep that specific update off my Win10 computers including my dad's Toshiba laptop that runs Win10 Home v1909

edit - also need to make sure the windows10upgrade.exe file (aka Win10 Update assistant app which also does the force upgrades) is also removed or doesn't exist on my Win10 pcs as well - I know for sure that apps like WAU manager, WUMT & WuMgr can't stop that windows10upgrade.exe file so I have to search for and delete that EXE file

Sledgehammer can stop Windows10UpgraderApp.exe, and I have added the related code into my script, so I do not have to search for and delete that EXE file. The advantage of using scripts is that one can add/modify/delete things at will.

    Ditto on that.

    @erpster4
I don't have that file, just an empty hidden system folder.

Ditto on that. No file can be found in the locked folder.
    Code:
    C:\Windows\system32>Dir /a "C:\Windows10Upgrade\
Volume in drive C is Windows 10
     Volume Serial Number is C4FC-80C6

     Directory of C:\Windows10Upgrade

    File Not Found
One can add files into it via Linux, which M$ is not very likely to use.
