    windows defender updates / 1903 update


    Do updates for Windows Defender operate independently of operating system updates?

    Currently running win 10 pro 1903
    Is it possible to rollback to a pre 1903 update?

    Hi, you can't roll back from 1 major build to an earlier one unless you either
    - are within the period allowed (10 days by default) from having upgraded and Windows.old exists
    or
    - you have a disk image (or clone) of your earlier build and are willing to restore that - with everything on the partitions restored being restored to that earlier date of course.

    You can uninstall updates.

    Defender updates are normally delivered via Windows Update.
    It is possible to disable WU and have Defender updates maintained via a scheduled task.
    E.g.
    How do I get Windows Defender Scheduled Scan back in Task Scheduler?

    Sledgehammer (script + program for manual updates) does exactly that. Free.

    Yes, the method is Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update
    Windows Defender will be updated automatically at six-hour intervals, while automatic Windows updates have been disabled.
