Well it wasn't one of my better moments when the in-place upgrade told me it couldn't continue due to file corruption.
After swearing at it copiously I went back to my main partition which thank God still works and formatted the O: drive.
I then tried to install a fresh copy from within C: and it just simply stopped at a black screen.
Back to booting from the DVD, installation worked fine but of course MS asks far too many questions during setup and I obviously got something wrong as I couldn't boot back into it, so back to my original Win 10.
For now I will make do with just one copy of Windows 10.
Really this iteration of Windows is a royal PITA, but at least I know it's up to date on my Main OS.....LOL
Glad that your main installation on C:\ didn't get hosed up. That was the reason of my insistence on having system image backup beforehand. From what I can understand, it's like you had a dual boot (maybe I am wrong), but something went awry for the second partition, i.e., O:\ . If you want a testing environment, you can always try a VM (virtual machine), like Virtual Box:
Oracle VM VirtualBox
Some more experienced members with VMware in TF can always chime in with other types. Notwithstanding, If I were you, I would wait after the big upgrade (FU) coming soon in the five coming days with 2004 aka 20H1 before going that route.
After almost bricking my machine I returned to v1909 and now WU is warning me that the above update isn't for my machine, yet. When I read the "Learn More" link, almost to the end it states that the update is not compatible with old Nvidia drives like mine, The GPU has an old driver which wont update and apparently MS and Nvidia are talking to each other about a workaround.
That's why I prefer to wait for any updates. In fact, I'm still very happy with 1809, it does everything I want.
