updates lead to resolving host issue

My wife's PC, Ver 18363 Update 1909, is usually used to browse via Chrome, but not always. On the last 3 occasions we've done update (automatic) the result has been vastly slow operation with "resolving host" message. I've gone through all the recommended processes (that is all the DNS settings, the Chrome cache, pc cache etc.) to "cure" the issue each time but although the problem seems to go away it reverts to "resolving host" shortly afterwards.

I've found that by uninstalling the latest updates the problem is solved permanently, or until the next update comes along.
We paused updates yesterday after uninstalling KB4556799 but this morning it had updated using KB4552931. And to get any life out of browsing (using new Edge or Chrome) we had to uninstall '931.
Can anyone recognise this issue, please? And/or suggest what to do?

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts
    echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts
    popd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Double click or right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator

Set dns to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1 see if that helps

    resolving host issue

    Thanks, jacee
My wife's pc is now ok as we stopped windows updates. However MINE now has developed a similar ill. But not to do with updates, just every morning it starts up to resolve host.
Your code works but needs to be invoked every morning.
Changing the dns didn't make any difference, so I've gone back to automatic. It would be nice to find a more permanent solution but what we have is useable. Thanks both
