how do I diable auto restart after updates?

Is there a way for me to not have windows do an automatic reboot after it updates itself? My computer is a Dell 545s, win10 pro. I have an external usb hdd plugged in at all times that is used to backup my documents folder daily. With it is plugged in, the computer freezes at the Dell splash screen. I have to unplug it, force a shutdown by holding the power button in, then restart. The computer has done this before I upgraded to win10 and also does it with different hdd's. I've changed the boot sequence so the hdd is last, but it still freezes. I'd like not to have windows reboot my computer and for me to do so manually, or noify me of available updates like in wn7. Is this possible? I've searched and things I've found either don't make sense to me as to how to do it or more complicated than i fell comfortable doing. Thanks.

This command should prevent Windows Update forcibly restarting your computer.

Please open the Command Prompt typing cmd.exe into Start Menu, right-click on Cmd.exe, and open it as an administrator.

Execute below command and restart your computer.

    Code:
    Reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU /v NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers /t REG_DWORD /d 1

That is possible by Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update

Thanks. Just be clear, open cmd,exe and copy/paste that complete line from "reg to "/d 1"?

This looks the easiest for me. Will it let me know when to restart my computer or do I just manually restart say, on a weekly basis?
