Update says it needs stg for 2020-04 KB4549949 but gobs on thumb drive

    V 1809 OS Build 17763.1098

Had similar problem a while back w/o the thumb drive, but after I plugged in the thumb drive it went ahead. My laptop has a small SSD and there is really nothing on it I can delete. Is there any way to make it take advantage of the thumb drive (which has over 50G free!)?

    Thanks, Bob

Same issue with my Dell Inspiron 11" with 32GB SSD. Never could free up enough and it denied use of USB Thumb drive and SDHC card, couldn't get Version 1809 or 1903 on it, kept wanting 9GB more free space.

So it finally occurred to me that maybe it would be practical to just move some large files and/or directories from the C drive to the thumb drive. I found one directory which was almost 500M and moved it to the thumb drive and then the update ran.

It's so irritating that Windows Update doesn't use a thumb drive if necessary. And also irritating, maybe even more so, that it never tells you how much storage it needs.

It is frustrating that those computers with only a 32GB drive can't use additional storage. I got a nice 11" Notebook at Wal*Mart about 3 years ago, $139 half-price Intercom-only special and it wouldn't do Version 1903 or Version 1909, now happily running Linux Mint. Did get a 12" Renewed for $149 with a 1-year warranty and 256GB SSD, nice replacement.
