Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 - Error 0x80240438

    Hello,

Just recently started getting this error. The next line of the error says:
"We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

I have internet working, ample space on C:\ etc.

Research that I have done so far suggests either I do
    - windows re-install or
    - try sledgehammer

Am wondering if there is any simpler option than the above. If not, then need to find out steps that one needs to take to prepare for the above 2 approaches.

My windows machine used AnswerFile to separate OS/Programs and Data but installing OS/Programs isn't a quick task either.

    Thanks for any suggestion/comments.

You can use Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to upgrade to latest version of Windows 10.

Thanks, yes, that could be another option. How likely is it that one might have to re-install some programs again?

Looking at the following as well, just trying to see which would be the easiest way to fix this, one that might not need me to install some/all programs

When you upgrade Windows 10 you don't lose any personal files and installed programs.

    Use Windows Update Troubleshooter.

    • Right-click on Start button and pick Settings
    • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot
    • Click on Windows Update and select Run the troubleshooter

    Download Windows updates manually.

    • Go to the official Microsoft update catalog;
    • Enter a specific update code, for example, KB4481031
    • Select the correct version and click Download
    • Click on the link and Windows will update your computer

Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

Sledgehammer will stop Windows updates rather than resetting Windows Update.

    Thanks.

Tried - Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 - but no luck.

So, only option is to go via Media Creation Tool.
I used Kari's tutorial a few years back while installing windows 10. Do i need to dig up the answer file etc and use that while installing?
