Windows update repair failed - we can't tell if you have enough space

    Hello,

i ran into this bug while trying to update repair windows: "we can't tell if your pc has enough space to continue installing windows 10".

I read it is, because i have no system reserved partition. I recently was forced to remake efi partition. But i don't know if i did that right. My computer boots, but i can't see boot record in msconfig. I use gpt disk with uefi boot. I tried create system partition and give it 600mb and move there bcd registry, but i don't see boot record in EasyBCD and therefore i was unable to do that. I tried update bcd registry store, but all found how to do that is: use bcd - see help. But i didn't find any command that would do that...

I am also not sure it is cause, because i have no system reserved partition, it seems like a different issue. Google found that because it had keyword windows update.

It is so broken, i don't know how to fix it at this point... And i don't want reinstall, i have to many thing on pc...

    My system disk partitioning:

Hi, if your C: is intact (why are you attempting an in-place upgrade repair?) then to solve your partition issues simply and reliably:

    a. Create a disk image of your current C: (Using e.g. Macrium Reflect)
    b. Clean install Windows, erasing all bar any data partitions you have explicitly created (if any)
    c. Check that boots ok
    d. Restore the disk image in the place of the newly created 'C: '.
    e. Try rebooting: either
    - automatic repair will fix it
    or
    - boot from a Win 10 bootable medium and run Startup repair

I guess you may now be regretting you haven't been using disk imaging routinely- which I assume is the case.
If so, as soon as you get your PC running again, start using disk imaging regularly.

So issue is related to wrong partitioning than ? Do i take it correctly to backup only C: without other partitions, clean install and than restore image in place of C: ? I was looking for simpler solution without needing of doing all of that. I will do that only if anything else cannot be done.

I wanted to try update the BCD registry file, don't know why i am not seeting boot record in msconfig.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sure someone will suggest a very specific and accurate fix for whatever your problem may be. Good luck.

Thank you for help: however simply telling me how to fix boot record would help. I had intuition, it is caused by that and from what i read. I tried startup repair, from windows usb and now i can update repair. I have backup iso, however it was already broken - all it takes one unnoticed issue and i don't have space to make it often. I delete previous back...

From what I've read so far, I have a feeling you've tinkered/tampered a little too much in trying to fix/repair whatever the original problem was, and that the clean (re)install of Windows option (as suggested above) is your best course.

It was because efi partition had only 100. I remade to 600 mb and it worked.
