This thread should be marked as solved. THe previous installation was obviously corrupted.
Which is why we are trying to fix it..........

But I have taken up far too much of everyone’s time, it would be nice to find a solution, could be handy to know if such a situation arose again. But to be fair to everyone & especially superfly, whom must have better things to do then spend time fixing my PC via Team Viewer, I have decided to go with a clean install, ( already have a MR image of this ) then slowly install my programs, have made a list of the main ones, then will monitor the activation status etc. Once stable and I am confident will install the remaining less often used programs.

I do thank everyone for their time and effort, pity a solution wasn’t found, will have to remain a mystery....especially as Exaccell is of the belief that it’s time to give up, apparently....

One last thing before I leave this issue

I get a window pop up saying some of my accounts need attention

My PC suddenly says its not activated-fix-accounts.png

then it says i am not connected to the internet

My PC suddenly says its not activated-need-internet.png

    then clicjing on retry gets
My PC suddenly says its not activated-just-moment.png

then it goes through EACH of my MS accounts and asks me to enter the password....did this before, but since then have changed all my passwords

My PC suddenly says its not activated-enter-password.png

have left out the email address....at the top of the image above...does this for each of my 3 MS email accounts, then at the end it asks for my windows password, saying just one last time, dont have a screenshot of this......does this all seem genuine ? not asking for it to be fixed, just curious

"W7 was PRO...... the PC did Not come with W7 preinstalled, I bought W7 from an online seller, with the disk, maybe that’s where the HP comes from, but as it activates perfectly well with a clean install, I don't see it’s a Key issue,”
--- Does that mean you bought the PC without an installed OS and installed Windows 7 Pro with the disc you purchased from the online seller instead of directly from Microsoft
--- I think you are on to something as that install disc might be the source of where HP comes from as it might have been for using it on an HP system.

In your post #37 "Was custom built in October 2013"
--- Thank you: The reason I kept asking about that is because I was wondering if the custom build was originally for Windows 7 Pro, Windows 10 Pro or somewhere in between for troubleshooting purposes.

I know you have mentioned you don’t see something as a key issue a few times, but there are times a question will be brought up about an issue is because we can’t see your computer.

Please verify your product key using ShowKeyPlus
    ShowKeyPlus
Scroll down to the screen with the black background & white letters that represents a Windows 7 OEM key.
See what yours shows so you’ll know what is supposed to show if any double-checking it in the future will make sense for verification.
--- If you run into a similar problem in the future as this thread, could call Microsoft and have them activate your system with the appropriate information that they’ll need to know.

On your accounts need attention, it looks normal to me. You will be asked for your verification code so you can enter it. If you don't know your verication code, you can have a new one sent to your cell phone or an alternate email account I believe.

Thanks, at least it’s a genuine MS message.....just entering all 3 passwords, for each MS account then leads me to setup a PIN, which then advises “ there has been a problem “ something about it likely being their fault, try again or skip, I try again, then skip, but activation still failed.....Ho Hum.....worth a try....

    Hello

Confirmed i still have windows 10 pro installed, i did a phone support call to MS, the first rep was very good, took me through some CMD options, deleted the key, but when i entered my W7 pro key it said invalid key.....put me through to tech support, but that was useless, he kept insisting the free W10 upgrade, would only work once to activate, after that i would need to buy a W10 pro key, i insisted it had been fine fir more than 2 years and various fresh installs had worked perfectly activated immediately, as did the clean install i did a few days ago, so i explained my key must be valid on MS servers, even an in place W10 upgrade failed to activate. So needed to fix it, he continued to insist, if i reinstalled i would need to buy a W10 key.....would not budge, just ignored that it validated ok with a fresh install as it had dine previously many many times, the free upgrade from W7 to W10 was licensed. To my PC, i shouldn’t have to BUY a W10 product key, just gave up as he wouldnt help me.....

So now I have a clean install and windows is activated, what are my steps to find out why my original windows install wasn’t activated......

    I await instructions........

and apart from checking activation, I do everything else as per your suggestions......will in future check validated once a month.......
For verification, now you are saying it isn't activated and Microsoft won't help you?

pretty much YES....Te first agent spent ages running through various commands, was very patient, but when I was `elevated` to a Tech support person, it all went downhill, he completely ignored that it activated with a clean install, thereby confirming the MS servers had my W10 key registered to my PC.....Anyway, I thought what the hell ( going to get critiscised for this I am certain ) I bought a Windows 10 PRO key from Ebay for £1.79....accepted ok and now activated.....so fingers crossed.....thanks so much for all the help.....

OK it's good that you are back in business.
Someone else more adept than me can explain it much better than me that it doesn't necessarily mean its recorded by Microsoft.
--- Keep the eBay's vendor information whom you bought that key from as it's possible you might need to call them sometime in the future for an activation problem that comes up.
