W10 Tech Preview upgraded to full version. Huh? Is that expected?

    Hi,
This is more curiosity that anything - I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth...
I had two installations of the tech preview: One on an ex-XP Dell laptop for my father to play around with, and one in a VM.

About 5 days ago my dad reported that it had "done something" and I found that it had upgraded to the full W10 Pro version. Yesterday, my W10 (which was running build 10130 in a vm) said there were updates - and installing them, it installed W10 Pro.

Am I missing something here? I know the upgrades are free to 7/8/8.1 - but are they upgrading all tech preview builds as well? certainly nice to have a new Windows 10 machine, virtual or not.
I still will hang onto my main Windows 7s - I don't think W10 is desktop friendly, but well...cool... and the info may help someone with that old laptop they don't want to spend OS money on.

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure if you stay in the Insider program, your tech previews indeed update to Windows 10. Mine did.

okaay. that was it? cool .... and good to hear, because with this one I've been trying to feed back as much as possible, so it's good when they return the courtesy.
current battle is with trying to tailor what the start menu looks like ... but I'd better post that in an appropriate thread.
    thanks, pparks1!

In an elevated command prompt type slmgr /xpr and make sure you have a permanent activation and not a preview that will expire.
