Look, I am not a super user with Windows.
I am looking for a simple fix to my problem.
The Pause option is the only one that I see in the Advance section.
I can see that there are several options which can be used, but quite frankly, I am just not able to carry them out.
A simple reply to a question might be helpful.
Can I stop the automatic update in Services?
If this is not a good choice, then I will have to get my computer guy to help me.
OK, I can do that.
But, as I asked before. Am I able to stop this in Task Manager--Services?
Right-click on the Start button-->"Windows PowerShell (Admin)". RunCMD
and then ...
Runnet stop wuauserv
to stop Windows Update.
Runsc config "wuauserv" start=disabled
to disable Windows Update.
Runsc config "wuauserv" start=demand
to enable Windows Update.
Just to be sure that I am understanding you.
Stopping Windows Update in Task Manager>Services is different from disabling from the command prompt.
Please help me understand. If I stop in Task Manager, will the service restart when the PC is booted up?
I have never stopped the service via Task Manager, so I do not know what will happen.
I think stopping is different from disabling.
I think I can disable it via Services (Run as administrator), right click on properties to turn on Disable in the drop-down menu.
I also saw that one should also disable WaaSMedicSVC.
Are you familiar with this?
Am I right in thinking that you refuse to use the following?
1. Third-party applications.
2. Script files.
3. Commands.
I am just not really comfortable with following the directions.
What I found with services is easy enough for me to use. I did see the disable command, which I do think is not the same as stopping.
