If I understand correctly every update to Windows Defender will have the same kb number. That would be weird.

It would be impractical for MS to have a different KB number for each new signature update, they typically issue at least two or three every day.

If you check for updates in Windows Security it will show you the version number and creation date of your current signature update, and the date Defender last checked for updates. The latest signatures are currently version 1.309.1457.0.

If you are still having trouble getting an update, you can download a standalone installer for the current signatures from Microsoft. They are available for different versions of Windows and in 32-bit or 64-bit. Make sure you click the appropriate link for your system.

The links point to an executable file named mpam-fe.exe, mpam-feX64.exe, or mpas-fe.exe... Simply launch the file to manually install the latest security intelligence.

Windows Update MiniTool also shows information about Windows Defender as shown below:

I have never used Windows Defender User Interface to install definition updates. I only use VBScript to do so.
