    delay updates

the laptop does not usually connect to the internet.

sadly i need to connect for a few minutes to put avg on before i download adobe photoshop.
photoshop will be used for at most 5 weeks and does not (so i am told) need to be connected all the time - just occasionaly while they check i paid i think!

Then the laptop will be back to splendid isolation.
so i do NOT wish any disruptive updates that i certainly do not need.

on the internet ( on another computer) i read i can go to services.msc - windows update - general tab and choose disabled.

    how long does that last?
do i NEED to have a microsoft account to use this win 10 computer on the internet?
    thanks

    Hello Anon,

Option 7 in the tutorial below is good to disable automatic updates to allow you update when you want and have time.

It's well trusted, but you should always pay attention during installation of a program to make sure nothing else is checked to also be installed along with the program.

Yes, you sure can download it on any computer and copy it over to the Windows 10 computer.

What this actually does can simply be done by the following command: sc config "wuauserv" start=disabled
The command will disable the "Windows Update" service. The suggested option 7 can disable auto-updates without disabling the said service, and checks for updates can be run either manually or automatically.
