    Blocking Updates With Winaero Tweaker?

Has anyone used Winero Tweaker to block Windows 10 updates? I see there is an option for it but haven't tried it yet. I would like to disable Win Updates easily until the latest mess has blown over.

Can't you just uninstall those updates, then use the Pause Update functionality instead?

I haven't actually installed the updates yet. I do have it paused until about the 25th. Not sure what to do if MS hasn't come up with a good fix by then.

Hi, you have Pro, so you have 2 useful features. You shouldn't need to resort to 3rd party methods if you wish to delay updates.

    1. Use group policy to set updates to Notify - that means you are told there's an update available and only updates you personally approve are downloaded and actioned. Includes Defender upates.

    2. Set feature updates (upgrades) to be deferred by 365 days.

For more granular control see e.g. this free utililty esp. if you want to apply specific updates only:
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
    Option 7

By the way- what do you regard as 'the latest mess'? I reverted from 1909 given the file explorer search issues our MS friends introduced...

To stop specific updates (usually unwanted generic drivers that replace your OEM working drivers), you can also use the Windows Update Show/Hide Tool. Just hide the updates you don't want and they won't bother you again (until there are replaced by newer driver updates that is).

I think the OP wants to disable auto-updates rather than hide unwanted updates according to the following sentence:

You could stop the service from running. Type services.misc in the search box, scroll down to Windows update, right click on it, click on properties, then set to stop.

There are ways to disable auto-updates without stopping/disabling the service.

Disabling the service is not enough. You have to disable Windows Update service and Update Orchestrator Service. Also you have to turn off or disable any Windows Update and Update Orchestrator entries in Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft ->Windows -> UpdateOrchestrator (and Windows Update). I would also use O&O Windows 10 Shutup utility to turn off anything related to Windows Update. Even then, after some days or months Windows Update might be enabled again and you have to use Windows Shutup again.
