Failed update install of new 1909 KB4532938

After having to do a clean install a couple months back because the frustration of failed updates, I had everything working fine an updates were going good. Everything looks good in device manager. Updated and no issues.
Last successfull update was 1909 Cumulative KB4528760 back on 1/14/20. Still at that time all was well.
Since then, I keep getting failed updates with last being today KB4532693 error code 0x800f0845
I haven't done anything to the laptop, rarely used, no changes made at all.
    Its a Dell 3147 Inspiron 11 Windows 10 Home 10.0.18363 Build 18363
For now I just paused updates because I couldn't figure out how to disable them.

    Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Repeated update failure such as you describe is not a typical experience.

I would suggest you start with basic integrity checks just to establish a baseline:

    a. Check your disk (as this is the second time you've had this sort of problem) e.g. use
HDTune free v2.55 - Health and Error scan tabs. (Find it with Google e.g, on Softpedia)

    b. If ok, from an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan

    c. If ok, from an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    SFC /SCANNOW

You can then try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and post the result,
    and then
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

then try the update again. This may well do the same.

What security software are you running?

Try manually downloading the update and installing it:
    KB4532938 Cumulative Update .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 Windows 10 Jan. 14

    - includes download links.

Note the comments following do not include your error number.

I couldn't figure out how to disable them.
3rd party free utilities can do this (Pro users have more options) and let you manually check for updates e.g.
    Sledgehammer (e.g. from Majorgeeks)
    or
Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
    Option 7
