New Laptop with 1809 - try to update to 1909 - get 80070003 error

    Hi folks.

    Hope you can help.

Brand-new laptop delivered today. Ran Winver and got 1809 as version.

Ran Windows update several times and was eventually offered 1909.

Tried updating and got the error message "We couldn't install this update, but you can try again (0x80070003).

    Any suggestions?

As I said, this is a brand-new laptop (currently about 4 hrs old).

do you have a sd card in or any usb devices plugged in? If so remove them.

Try a cold start. shut down completely then restart.
    Try a clean boot.

    Turn off Fast startup

UPDATE: Seems to be going through this time (3rd time)

No, no SD cards or anything else installed/connected

BTW, how do I get rid of the following in 'Apps and Features' as 'uninstall' doesn't appear to do anything!

    XBox Console Companion

    XBox Game Bar

    XBox Game Speech Window

    Microsoft Store

Microsoft Office 365 - now deteled

I would not manually remove anything that does not have an uninstall button in programs and features. It can cause grief later on trust me on that.

Apps are normally simple right click and there is an option to uninstall

    Hi Porthos,

That's just the problem - the apps do have an 'uninstall' button, however it is greyed out and doesn't consequently work.

Although these apps are small, they clutter up the start menu - which has enough necessary 'junk' on it already.

    @Samuria

As above. These apps have an uninstall button but for some reason they aren't active.

@thomaseg1 came up with a method using PowerShell commands which looks very useful. I clicked on 'thanks' but apparently, having thanked him once already, I have to spread some more love around before I can thank him again.

However, I can thank him publicly - which I am now doing. Thank you.

    Regards
