    Transfer os retail key for w10

    Good morning.

    I have a desktop with a Windows 10 Retail Key.

    With a retail key I understand it can be transferred to a new PC having first unregistered it from the current PC.

    Am I correct in the above as I am likely to order a new PC without an o/s.

    Thank you

    Windows licences no longer use the term Retail. They refer to software being either Preinstalled or Stand-alone {i.e. bought separately}

    You will find a copy on your computer at **
    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32\en-GB\Licenses\OEM\Core\license.rtf
    and the licence has an external reference to
    Additional Terms for Microsoft Windows - aka.ms-transfer

    {** for foreign users reading this, the folder path should be altered to point to your language-region equivalent}

    If the product key is truly from a "Fulll Packaged Retail Product", which is what Microsoft calls it:

    Then, yes, you can activate Windows 10 on a new computer with it. The Full Packaged Retail Product will come with a read only Windows 10 USB flash drive.
