Yeah, MAK keys don't use KMS, its a one time activation. At one time with Windows 10 I had to enter it on every clean install. Which likely counted as one install each time. I try to avoid using them unless I have too. I for the most part only ever used mine as they were intended, for testing out Enterprise. There are no Retail keys for Enterprise.
Now, IMHO, regardless of where you get your key, do you really need Enterprise? The only thing I wanted it for was to have a go at the official built in Windows To Go utility. Thats is now in other editions and I've ditched Enterprise for Pro. IMHO Pro should do just fine for the majority of tech enthusiasts.

    Hi there

Not sure but I did think I read somewhere that you CAN get W10 Enterprise via retail -- although IMO for individual users you probably would be better off with W10 Pro or W10 Workstation edition.

In theory no --once it's activated properly it should stay activated unless it's activated by corporate licensing servers which have their own licensing deals with Ms.

Windows 10 Enterprise isn't "rented" / subscription software like Office 2019 etc.

I was going by my "My Visual Studio Enterprise" subscription. It has since expired, but when active there were no Retail Keys listed for Enterprise, only MAK keys.

Yes and no. Volume Licence copies licensed by Corporations usually activate VIA a Key Management Server (KMS). Any PC using this will have to reactivate via the KMS server at set intervals. If it can't connect to reactivate activation times out and fails. These corporations pay annual fees to license each install of Enterprise they are using. They buy in bulk so to speak, Volume License. That KMS server in on company property and managed by that corporation, not Microsoft. KMS installs do not activate via Microsoft.
Small companies may be able to use a MAK key instead. Those activations don't time out as far as I know. They have a limit on how many installs can be done though, so that it can't be abused etc.

EDIT: I should state that I am far from being any kind of expert on this. And have never worked IT or set any of this up. I'm going by what I have seen posted by those in the know.
