    Is v.1909 back ?

    So is v.1909 back ?

I noticed some people can download it again. But have the issues with file explorer been fixed ? That's eomeething i would really like to know.

I didn't check yet. I mean i didn't click on "check for updates" yet, but W10 will just check automatically tommorow i think.

Just one thing i'm confused about. Also i noticed that for some users it's now "cumulative" not "feature". If the update is "cumulative" and not "feature" does that mean it will automatically download it and update by itself ?

Back when it was "feature" you had the option to update when you want to. If it's "cumulative" then will W10 automatically download it and install it ? I noticed most cumulative updates are always automatically downloaded and installed.

There was a cumulative update on the 15th KB4528760 (OS Builds 18362.592 and 18363.592), which may have fixed the issue for those experiencing it, which would account for the release of the held-back updates.

Personally I've had no issues whatsoever with the various "flavours" of 1909 since It was offered to me back in August, but others have not been as fortunate so my advice is to wait until it is offered or image your system and give it a try. It should not download any way if your system is not suitable.

1909 is of course being treated as a new type of upgrade the spring upgrade being the major feature update and the autumn one a small feature update and a fix for any issues remaining from the previous feature update

    Barman58 i'm still on 1903 that's why i'm asking.

Before it was removed i remember 1909 was a feature update and it was optional. But it was removed and now i think it's back for about 1 day or less because are users can re-download it.

What i want to know is if it still optional and you can choose to install when you want or if it will automatically download and install itself. Cumulative updates download and install themselves i think. But 1909 was a feature update and if it's cumulative now i don't know if it will automatically download and install itself.

The way I understand things due to the changes in the way things now work (only one feature update per year (spring) and another Hybrid update in the Autumn (fall)), the 1909 and 2009 etc will be treated as Cumulative updates whereas the spring update will be a traditional Feature update.

This all make the assumption that Microsoft does not change back to the previous system or invent a new one once they get the telemetry from this years roll-out and see what is best

Pardon my ignorance here, but could anyone fill me in on what File Explorer problem we are talking about? I've been using 1909 for quite a while now and had no problems whatsoever with File Explorer.

Also, if you use the Microsoft Media Creation tool it will currently pull down or install Windows 10 1909, January 2020 refresh (includes the Jan cumulative update).

A cumulative update cannot upgrade you from 1903 to 1909. The confusion may be because 1909 and 1903 share exactly the same CUs, sometimes it may be misnamed.

I have just uninstalled the KB4517245 enablement package to return a 1909 system to 1903. On checking for updates it still offers the 'Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909' as an optional update with a 'download and install now' link.

Bree, so it will not automatically download and install, correct ?

Thank you, that's all i needed to know so if i'm gaming i won't end up having notifications or low FPS because of it.

In 1909 the search box in File Explorer has now been updated to use the Windows Search engine. There are some significant difference in how this can be used, with some features File Explorer used to offer no longer being available. More on this here...

1909 way to go back to old search in explorer?

On my system, the Feature Upgrade to v.1909 is optional. WU did an auto update check last night and that resulted in the "download and install" link on the WU page. That means the Feature Upgrade is only going be done if you click the link. I previously let that link sit from August 2019 until it disappeared when I did the January 2020 patch Tuesday update. At that time the Feature Upgrade link to v1903 showed up and after I did the Feature Upgrade update to v.1903 on 01/19/2020, the Feature Upgrade update link just disappeared completely. Two days later the Feature Upgrade link to 1909 showed up when WU did an auto update check, which it does nearly every day. I'm going to wait a few months before I pull the trigger on v.1909.
