Help - Update 1909 not showing up in Windows Update

    Hello

So yesterday Windows 10 just updated and it downloaded KB4528760 and another update for net framework 3.5 and 4.8

I am still using version 1903 because since 1909 was optional i figured i'd wait until i want to and then update to 1909. But the problem is after Windows 10 updated itself yesterday, the 1909 update isn't showing up anymore as "available".

I clicked on "Check Updates" but it still doesn't show up. What should i do ?

I mean i was probably gonna install it anyway but i figured i can install it whenver i want, i didn't knew it would dissapear.

I wouldn't panic. The enablement package is only offered via Windows update, and there is a widely reported problem with the change MS made to file explorer search. I reverted to 1903 because of that; MS is supposed to be fixing it.

You have Pro - if you really want it, check you have not deferred feature updates. (Settings and Group Policy).

Further- note that MS does not offer upgrades where the PC is deemed incompatible.

Dalchina will another feature update be available this year ? I mean if i don't install 1909 will i be able to install the next version directly from 1903 ?

Also what is the problem with the file explorer you mentioned in 1909 ?

And what do you mean "MS does not offer upgrades where the PC is deemed incompatible" ? I'm using an FX 8300 octa core 16 GB RAM and GTX 950. It's not like my PC can't handle W10 specs.

Google can be your friend. Try searching for e.g.
    explorer search broken 1909

and on this forum where you can find a number of threads.

Basic statement in principle. Nothing specific about your PC.

    Yes

    Yes
Then what does "MS does not offer upgrades where the PC is deemed incompatible" mean ? How is a PC incompatible other then hardware or software requirements ?

Also, should i manually install 1909 or maybe i should wait for the next version ? I don't have any problems waiting, i'm just wondering if 1909 was something essential or not because i like gaming and don't know if other future games that come out will actually require version 1909 in order to run.

Thank you so much for your reply and question.

MS does not offer upgrades where the PC is deemed incompatible
Long version: Software runs on hardware. The two must be compatible or there are problems.

People install Windows on quite old PCs, and on PCs with a big range and mix of software and hardware.

Windows 10 is updated periodically. With each new build, the drivers, both low level built in to Windows and those delivered to a given PC may differ from those in the last build.

MS has a policy whereby if certain criteria are not met, or a particular PC or installed hardware or software is known from reports, Insider testing etc that a given build will exhibit problems when installed on that hardware to the disadvantage of that user, said build will not be made available. This is intended to help users.

Note further that in general, build roll-outs are carefully phased over a period- much more so since MS got bad press over a couple of rushed feature updates such that some users will receive these earlier than others. This may, in some cases extend to 3 months or so.

1909 offers little new- it simply enables a few things already in 1903. Read about it in the article in the News section where you can find an article per update per build.

No idea about games- see the games supplier.

Thanks for replying, really useful info to know.

So long story short it's basically about hardware & software.

I know people have older PCs that's why i also listed my specs just in case it might help, although it would have been absurd for any OS not to run on an FX 8300 octa core and 16 GB RAM. Not saying my PC is anything special but i remember a time when OS requirements were of 1 GB RAM and a 800 Mhz CPU and that was also for W7 and W8.1 if i remember right.

Times change but it also depends on software. Although other then the fact of people still using Win XP or Vista i don't see any reason why any PC with W7 or W8.1 wouldn't be able to upgrade to W10 1903 or 1909 whatever version.
