    OK, thanks.
I've downloaded that Autoruns app to test things.

OK, I ran this thing and the results are overwhelming.
For example, I have several dozen drivers running, many from companies I have never even heard of.
I don't know if I can disable them or if they are necessary for Win 10 to run smoothly.
    How do I distinguish them?

It is amazing the number of items which start with windows, I would not worry about the Drivers, any slight error with drivers can cause no end of issues and problems down the line. A lot of drivers are supplied by Microsoft and are there as fall back items if the hardware manufacturer forgets to supply a suitable item.

You would be best to concentrate on the items listed under Logon and Windows Logon - these should all give a good idea of what the relate to from their name or file address - look for items that relate to a functions you never use "HP Calender's" or "HP Notepad" - also check the scheduled tasks tab for items that you do not use.

You can take a look at the Image Hijack as you should not have anything in this area. If you do have anything It needs research as some can be malware creations

You can at anytime right click on an item and "Check Online" which should give you an idea of what the item does, if it does not make any sense to you it's best to ignore it and move on to the next

    I've checked the following areas:
    WinLogon - nothing in there
Logon - a few entries that look OK
Image Hijacks - 1 entry referring to Iexplore, seems to a legit MS entry
