Absolutely not true at all. I install Windows 10 using a full retail boxed product key. 100% retail. Then I clean install Windows 10 later and skip entering the product key. Windows 10 will activate itself with the generic product key. So how is that not a full retail license any longer?
When I did that in August without entering the key, it activated and ShowKeyPlus and slmgr/dli showed my retail key and not a generic key.

Ok. So you upgrade a full retail Windows 7 to Windows 10. It retains full retail license. But the resulting Windows 10 will have the generic product key. Probably a fairly common scenario.
