Windows 10 not accepting my product key from Windows 7 (0x004f050)

I upgraded my Windows 7 by running the ISO setup from a USB stick. The upgrade was no problem, but after some days using Windows 10 and having some driver issues, I decided to do a clean install. I booted from the USB stick, and when I was asked for a Product code, I entered the product key from my Windows 7. For some reasons it was not accepted, and I get the error code 0x004f050.

I even tried the Windows 10 product key (used a script to retrieve it), and that key failed to.

One other detail: I swapped my HDD prior to the Windows 10 clean install (but after the upgrade), have booted the Windows 10 installation at least once with the new HDD. Could that have caused a problem?

You need to first upgrade your computer then activate it.

THEN, you will be able to clean install using an ISO or the "Reset this PC" button.

He did that. Did you read the post?

During the clean install, when you are prompted for the key, underneath that select 'Skip this step' and you'll be fine.
