With this tool to manage their updates, any here using these?
I'm using Sledgehammer:

It includes both WUMT and WuMgr along with WUB

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
I found out you can update windows defender definitions from the settings page of windows defender, with windows updating halted, which is nice. I have been wanting a way to stop big feature updates as in going to a new version of windows and just get the little ones. So I think these things will do that.
I think you download them with the tool and then install manually. I am still learning about this way of updating.
If you are looking at Sledgehammer you just run sledgehammer.cmd (right click run as admin) then choose option to use either WuMgr or WUMT to check for updates. Then you get to choose which ones to install.
You might also be interested in DISM++
It works for me even with updates disabled by sledgehammer
