    Problems installing updates from Microsoft Catalog Site

    winver = 1709 OSBuild 16299.125
    Arch = 64bit

    I've installed this version of win 10 and am trying to install the latest cumulative update from the microsoft catalog site aka https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com.

    I did a search for "windows 10 1709 cumulative x64" the top entry is:

    2019-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4520006)
    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...9-5f04adee47e1

    However after downloading and trying to install I get the error message:

    The update is not applicable to your computer.

    Event Log:

    Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "E:\Windows_10_1709_Updates\windows10.0_Cumulative_10_19_kb4520006-x64_2f2ddb6bf0645ee375d93f7da097535c9d25d929.msu" ")

    I must be missing something simple. I even tried the oldest 1709 64bit cum update but received the same error.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, welcome to tenforums. This reads as if you've just installed Win 10 build 1709... is that correct? If so, why such an old build? Compatibility considerations perhaps?

    Welcome to Ten Forums battlerock.

    Although MS publish current 2019-10 cumulative updates for all version of W10 (including the original 1507 release) these will only install on the Long Term Service Branch (LTSB) versions.

    End of Service for 1709 Home and Pro was April 9, 2019. The 2019-04 cumulative update KB4493441 should be the last CU that will allow itself to be installed on a retail system if you download it from the Update Catalog. You can get it here:

    You're welcome. Could I ask why it has to be 1709?

    I see, thank you.

    You will have to take precautions to stop windows update automatically upgrading it.

    I put this on one of my win 10 pcs and so far it works.
    I set it to not update till the year 2099.
    And this program will let you update security definitions from within it.
    And you can block feature updates other other updates.
    I liked that it is easy to undo.

    @battlerock: you do not have the KB4521860 servicing stack update or newer installed for 1709. that's why KB4520006 was "not applicable" to your 1709 installation as that cumulative update requires a recent servicing stack update (SSU).

    also, are you running 1709 Home or 1709 Pro? type winver.exe at the Run dialog box to show the Win10 v1709 build number and edition.

    while the Home and Pro editions of 1709 went out of support in April 2019, the Enterprise & Education editions of 1709 get support & updates until April 2020 [that KB4520006 update will only install on enterprise/education versions of 1709].
