Any changes to the services.msc gets reverted when I restart my laptop

I'm using Windows 10 Home and I'm attempting to disable the automatic update. So I tried disabling the windows update service via services.msc. But when I restart my latptop, the change gets reverted to the usual 'automatic'. I also tried opening services.msc as an administrator but that also is not working. Kindly shed some light on this issue.

The standard approach is at Enable or Disable Automatic Updates - TenForumsTutorials

Opinions differ. My own approach is in My scheme for managing WU [my posts #73, #74] - TenForums and you will see lots of suggestions by others in that thread.

the method of disabling WU from services.msc only worked in the 1507 & 1511 versions and do not work anymore from 1607 & later. MS added the "windows update medic service" (aka. waasmedic svc) in v1803 & later, which will re-enable WU if it the other WU service was disabled.
