My PC uses Windows 10/1903, AV = Avast, Firewall = ZoneAlarm
Lengthy updates - Cumulative and Feature etc. which take a very long time to complete.
Is it safer to turn off the AV and Firewall before installing the update ?
Or is it OK to leave them on.
ZoneAlarm is very meticulous about system changes.
Can't guarantee it but have heard and read that third-party AV and firewall issues can be a problem. Not having any issues with Windows Defender or Windows Firewall. It's pretty much a "roll the dice" or "flip a coin" issue for users. If I Upgrade a client's computer I do it on my worktable with an Ethernet connection to my Router, forego the Wireless/Wi-Fi part 'just in case'.
Never disabled my ESET Internet Security during updating ..............never had any problems with updating also ............
Many users couldn't update to 1903 until they uninstalled their anti-virus, updated, then reinstalled the AV. Just turning off the AV didn't help, it took the uninstall.
The basic functions of a Firewall and AV are to prevent intrusions and changes to the system.
My ZoneAlarm Firewall is particularly aggressive with any system interference and my Avast AV is very meticulous.
It would make logical sense to me if the Windows updates are programmed to disable both these security features before update installation and they re-enable on system restart. I cannot see any reason why Windows updates should get a free ride past these programs when everything else does not. Makes no sense at all.
