Windows October Update (KB4517839) Causing Trouble

    1. After system restart to apply update, Windows lock screen goes black with a spinning cursor with loading circle.

    2. After logging in, Norton had an issue saying it was expired when it wasn't.

    3. Graphics seems buggy.

    4. Computer does not go to sleep. Instead, it goes to a gray screen with the mouse and cursor again.

    5. Windows Taskbar and Start Menu seems different.

Uninstall the update and hide update when ask to install it again.

    • Open Settings and click on “Update & security”
    • Click on “Windows Update” on the left and then on “View update history”.
    • On the next screen, click on “Uninstall updates”

@FreeBooter, I didn't even have to uninstall the update. I turned my computer off for the night last night, and when I turned it back on today, it was acting normal. So I don't know. I did read the bulletin for the update on Microsoft's website, and it said they were investigating a bug where it would cause some computers to function as it did mine when installing the update afterwards.

But all is fine now. Thanks for your help! :)

Quite strange, my system did exactly the same thing with KB4517389 as yours did with this update, all except for restarting again, I had to roll back.
I can't work out whats going on. Also paused updates.

There was also update for Net framework KB4515871that installed at the same time.
