Hi, please first try the Windows Update troubleshooter.
Troubleshoot Problems in Windows 10 with Troubleshooters

If that does not resolve things please try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    and try the first again.

If still problems, please post a screenshot of what the first indicates.

Windows has a number of troubleshooters available. Search Troubleshoot in Settings and see tutorials here

I tried all that & ever downloaded the file & tried to do a manual install, nothing worked. No problem, my computer is working fine, maybe Micro-Sloth will figure it out & fix it on their end.

    Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

Those are the steps also suggested here FWIW:
Windows Update Error 0x800f0982 on Windows 10 [TECHNICIAN FIX]

There's a new CU out today - see News. Perhaps you'll have more luck with that.

Well folks, the solution i found to this issue was don't remove anything that Microsoft might want to use to keep an eye on you and what you do.

I did a fresh install, ran the updates first, before i did my clean out of useless garbage & it ran the update flawlessly.

Moral is, Windows 10 may be a pain in the patoot in a lot of ways, but it is quickly becoming the only game in town.

    Thanks for all your help.

Sounds like you'd used one of the so-called anti-spying utilities...

The way to save yourself in many - but not all- cases from a clean install is to use disk imaging regularly. Base image after any build upgrade or installation, then periodically differential or incremental imaging e.g. macrium Reflect (free/paid is better) = external storage for image files.

If you have relevant images you can restore Windows or any imaged partition relatively quickly - even if the disk has to be replaced.

Guenter Born has a great discussion of this error code at Windows Update ends with error 0x800f0982 / 0x8024200d. It translates into PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND which means something in the component store that Windows 10 needs to process the update has gone missing. Thus, I concur with @dalchina's prior assessment that some kind of tweak or customization is what got you into trouble in the first place. Because switching to a more pristine Win10 installation seems to have fixed (or bypassed) the issue, I can't argue this very well any other way.
