New Windows 10?
I'm getting a "Critical Update Notice" telling me my Windows 10 is out of date. If I click on it, it take's me to EDGE and a Microsoft website with an "Install" button. Is this for real?

Hi, what is your current build number?
Sadly it's not a forum requirement, so we have to keep asking.
I'm guessing you have build 1803, and this is related to it reaching end of life.
Of course, there's always the possibility this has been subverted and it's a scam... check carefully.

Microsoft will enforce Windows 10 upgrades when support end nears - gHacks Tech News
Hi. I wasn't sure what it was. I usually get the updates automatically during shutdown/boot-up. So I went to SYSTEMS-WINDOWS UPDATE and searched for any updates. I got a Security update and an 1803 Update. I installed those, since I new where they came from.
The Critical Update Notice is gone now and I have Version 1803, Build 17134.1039. Is this right?
Sorry...Forgot to post the screenshot.
UPDATES mentions 1903, but it says I'm not quite ready for it. I'll get a notice when I'm ready.
Hi, I deduce you have build 1803, and will not be able to update to 1903 at present.
- this is the message that means there's an incompatibility - a driver, hardware or perhaps some incompatible software.UPDATES mentions 1903, but it says I'm not quite ready for it.
You haven't given your laptop model. How old is it, which edition of Windows did it come with, and for what edition of Windows are the latest drivers available for?
Is there a BIOS update available you could apply?
There is, of course, no guarantee that a given PC will be capable of being upgraded indefinitely.
If you look at some of the recent updates for 1903 in threads per update per build in the News section, some are described as dealing with known incompatibilities- i.e. MS is resolving some progressively.

You can also create a desktop shortcut to quickly determine the current Windows 10 version on your laptop.
right click on your desktop, click on "New", click on "Shortcut", enter winver for the location,
on the following screen type any name you want (in my case I entered “winver Dell Inspiron 580”, finally click on Finish.
NOTE: Originally my ”Dell Inspiron 580” is also OLD, was Windows 7 Home Shipping date 31 May 2011 for the original owner. Now on Windows 10 Home and runs excellently.

--- I suspect yours will be fine for quite a while if it’s kept well-maintained barring any hardware failures.
