Computer won't restart on its own to install updates

Active hours are set from 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM. Despite updates being ready to install "outside active hours" the computer has not restarted itself in over two weeks to finish the update process. The computer has barely been used in that time frame but when I looked today it still had the prompt that the computer needs to restart to install updates. Even when I set a specific time for it to restart it seems its hit or miss. What am I doing wrong?

I've had some computers set overnight awaiting the restart.

What a hot mess, but not surprising.

Last I left it it gave me the message something like "computer will restart at 11:15 PM to finish installing updates" I clicked ok.

When I checked a few days later I saw the same stupid icon saying computer needs to restart since it couldn't find a good time outside my active hours to restart. Typical MS fail.

Q: Why don't you just restart it manually ?

So the thousands of problems that are reported here should just be ignored if there's a workaround? The fact that the computer doesn't restart as it should is a problem to me and indicates an error on MS's end.

This problem continues to occur. My one machine has been "pending restart" for days, if not longer to install a cumulative update. The computer is barely used and is always asleep so why doesn't Windows restart it to finish installing the update? Doesn't happen on any of my other computers.

    Another Microsoft fail.

I wonder if sleep mode is preventing the restart? My Home system sits over night sometimes, sleep mode is not enabled and restart has run.

My other computers sleep and they restart on their own to install updates just fine. I can't figure this one out.
