    How To Disable 'Optional Updates' in Windows Update

    Hi,
    I'm trying to figure out how to disable the optional updates that shows up in the windows update window. It's mainly for driver's.I've tried to find the answer on my own, I've looked for that setting in the Group Policy Editor but couldn't find anything that said 'Optional Updates'.
    Thanks,
    David

    Update: I received an email message from 'Brink' informing me that he had replied to my post, but when I clicked in the link to be taken to the reply..nothing was there ??

    Hi Davy

    Have you tried option 2 in this tutorial?

    Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

    While this shuts off Windows processes for drivers you need to handle other places that "Help" you.

    Nvidia downloads drivers and manufactures also do through their apps. You have to go in to each and disable.

    If you add an "@" in front of a member's name they will see your post.

    @Caledon Ken,

    Thanks for your reply, yes I already tried what you mentioned in your reply, even with that driver setting 'enabled', the 'view optional updates' sub heading is still showing. Microsoft is getting pretty clever these days.

    That wasn't to shut off optional updates, just drivers.

    The heading will show as you still get Window's updates.

    There is also this thread although I don't believe in these kinds of tools.

    Believe it or not, Windows Update has been unable to install anything on my PC because I have used one of the tools mentioned in the thread.

    @Matthew Wai,
    I know exactly what you are talking about when you stated this "
    Believe it or not, Windows Update has been unable to install anything on my PC because I have used one of the tools mentioned in the thread." By the way, is this the tool that you were using: Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks

    If so..it's very simple to correct the issue, I'm enclosing an image for you to view..if you want to resume getting your updates from the 'real' windows update service, you simply just need to choose windows update down in the bottom left hand corner of the minitool program. You can select get driver's..etc., don't be afraid to check out the choice's available in that area. Once you have selected the item's you want, you will see a little circle about 2/3 's of the way up on the left hand side of the page, click on that circle..it will look for available updates from microsoft itself, you should then be able to get your update's in the regular manner like normal. I hope my comment's are of a helpful nature to you..that's the great thing about this forum, you can indeed get help when you need it.Below my name is the 'link' you can click on to see an image of the area I've mentioned here in my post.

    On my Home Edition, Windows Update MiniTool cannot stop auto-updates. I have used the file mentioned in this post to stop them.
