Problems after 1903 Windows 10 Update

    Hello,

I have noticed two issuess after Windows 10 update from 29.08.2019.
First is - I cant click on folders and files with mouses right button, cause the system gets stuck.
The second is - I have icons of my computer and my documents on a taskbar, but clicking on them brings no action at all. Does anyone have a similiar problem ?

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.

This might be because you have a shell extension (context menu entry) that is not compatible with 1903.

The usual way to identify this is to download and install Shellexview (free).
Run this, MS extensions should be hidden by default.
Disable all others and see if the problem has gone - no need to log off etc.

Then progressively enable them and identify the cause.

Note: Shellexview may not see all the extensions. For more, you can use the more technical Autoruns from MS (free).

Taskbar: there are various possibilities: e.g.
    Unresponsive Taskbar
    - indicates a driver issue (the thread is a bit involved- read the last post)

Taskbar completely unresponsive after upgrading to Win 10 from Win 7
Note the initial steps used in post #1 especially trying this in Safe Mode for comparison.

There are various threads on the taskbar not responding- feel free to search the forum for more.

Thank you very much for an answer.
How to use shellexview? All values in "Disabled" bracket are set to "No".
The problem with taskbar is only with these two icons, rest of them work fine.

    How do you use Shellexview?

    Disabled - > yes = disabled
    Disabled -> no = enabled

Try rt clicking an item listed.
You can also select a range.
And there are the small red and green buttons ...

Are you using Windows 10? You refer to 'My Computer' and 'My Documents' and your specs only say 'Windows'.

Do you understand the idea? It's to stop Windows seeing items added to the context menu.
You say rt clicking causes problems. So we simplify what happens. How? By removing (temporarily) some of those added items.

1, Make sure MS extensions are hidden (you don't want to disable those).

    2. Disable extensions.

Here I have right clicked one, and would choose disable.

    3. There is a prompt: respond by click Yes

    4. The extension is disabled:

    - and will not now appear in the context menu.

    5. To disable all, select all (CTRL A) then right click, Disable

That is what you want to do to see if this affects your problem.

Please post a screenshot of Shellexview showing entries disabled (so I can see what's happening), and also of your right click context menu.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post.

    Note this from my #2:

I have no idea what update that may have been. People run different builds, and receive updates and upgrades on different datest.

What is your W build? Sadly it's not a forum requirement so (yawn) we have to keep asking for it.
    Win key + r, winver

What was the last update you received? (see your Update History).

Please boot to Safe Mode. Is rt click ok then?

Then perform a clean boot. Is rt click ok then?

If not, please create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user and try it again.

Ok, I tried again with Shellexview and it works fine now.
Problem was caused by DeamonShellExt. Disabling it solved my both issues.
Thank you Sir for all your help and effort, I really appreciate it!

Nirsoft offers lots of utilities. And you've learnt a little about identifying problems.. that's an easy one, by the way.
