1903 installs on its own I reboot its not installed?? Error 0x80070643

I been running 1809 for a while and I like the MS gives us the option now to install 1903 when we want to. So its been sitting at this screen for a couple months then last night surfing the web I get a popup out of no where to the affect of updates have been installed. I'm like what?? Why would that install?

I'm glad it didn't update because i'm totally happy with 1809 and my system runs perfect no issues - does anyone know the issue with this error code?

I will Google it but I wanted to ask here.

Thanks1903 installs on its own I reboot its not installed?? Error 0x80070643-1903.jpg

it seems MS is beginning to offer 1903 to some 1809 users.

Given that this has happened once, then you might expect it to keep happening- failed upgrades just keep repeating. Which = a huge download each time- annoying behaviour.

Error numbers are not precisely diagnostic, unfortunately. Here's a random sample from searching for that error number (have you tried?)
Fix "0x80070643" Windows Update or Installation Errors on Windows - Driver Easy

Whether the first idea helps or not or is relevant in your case is entirely questionable.

Now, you will want to stop repeating upgrade attempts. You don't say if you have Home or Pro. Pro users can defer feature updates. I will assume Home.

One tool to help here is
    WUMT/Sledgehammer (free)
Download Sledgehammer (formerly WUMT Wrapper Script) - MajorGeeks
Blocks Windows Update, allows manual scan and selective updates with check boxes.

Using that, you can stay with 1809 in a controlled manner.

You may have some log files about the failed upgrade attempt:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...sion-of-window
    - see the relevant section.
However, it can be very hard to get useful info from them.

If you want to upgrade: try these basic checks:
    - check your disk e.g. HD Tune (free) Health and Error scan tabs
    - If ok- run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt (checks only)
    - check you have at least 30Gb free on C:

Post a full screen screenshot of your partitions using e.g. Minitoll partition wizard (not disk Management) expanding columns as necessary so text is visible.

    If all is ok:
Prepare to manually upgrade to 1903 by downloading the iso using the Microsoft Media Creation tool
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10
    and then upgrade:

    Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals
Disable or uninstall any 3rd party security software- especially Comodo. Noted you have Emsisoft.
Uninstall anything that modifies the GUI.

Log in, rt click and Mount the 1903 iso file
Open the new drive in file explorer

    Run setup.exe

During the sequence choose NOT to accept updates (you can disconnect the internet).
This shortens the sequence and reduces the risk of failure.

    Note any error message exactly.

    Zip and upload log files:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/928901/log-files-that-are-created-when-you-upgrade-to-a-new-version-of-window
    - see the relevant section.

allant: Umm, you don't quote a link to your post. Here it is:
How to get the Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903

    Corrected reference:
    website docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-1903

Similar info is maintained in News here:
Known and Resolved issues for Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903

I think, given the experiences of members here, that for most, 1903 is pretty stable and satisfactory.

Your mbo seems to be from around 2010 - your spec shows you're running Win 7.
Upgrading old hardware beyond its specification is at your own risk.
No one will guarantee Win 10 will work on all old hardware for which manufacturers have ceased to maintain drivers. If you choose to try upgrading without the build being offered by Windows Update, you are indeed taking responsibility.

Thus, if the above is correct, beware of extending your experience to people in general.

Have been running windows 10 for years now. 1903 has made my wi-fi disappear as many have reported in many forums here and elsewhere. Microsft site has not issued an update as yet. August Personal Computer magazine has listed the problems and web sites too. Please tell me where the solution for wi-fi is ??? doesnt show on my computer at all. Cant connect my modem to my solar panel etc. Best you read the magazine and if you have solutions offer them to the magazine which is read by many pc owners.

Hi Dalchina - Appreciate all the info. I'm actually an IT PC Tech/Network Admin by trade. Disk is error free and I have plenty of space 300GB on my drive.

I Googled some stuff last night saw similar posts. I did a check for updates it pulled down the latest version of .NET (which in a couple threads could have been the reason of the failure) I rebooted and we'll see if 1903 comes down or i'll just install it. I made a full back up and created a system image. I have Home addition but added the GPEdit Enabler script so I can disable 1903 in there if I want to really lock it down from what I read. I haven't done that b/c MS gave us the "choice" to update when we want.

    I can disable Emsisoft also.

My specs are Windows 10 see computer specs. I had an old Windows 7 PC a few years back. Unless those specs are showing up somewhere in my profile.

    - the comment about specs referred to @allant's post which it immediately followed.

That's the sort of confusion that arises if a second poster enters a thread, I'm afraid...

Unfortunately that may well not give you the full functions of a true Pro edition, and cannot be relied on. I think i read that some things work and some don't - but that was some time back.

True I understand. Thanks guys for all the info. I might sit on 1903 do more reading and maybe bite the bullet since its almost Sept. hoping most of the bugs are worked out.

It is likely that you could perform a reset save files or reset save files equivalent (reinstall drivers and applications) to be able to upgrade. Alternatively you can troubleshoot. For troubleshooting Panther and other log files can be scanned and read for routine and applicable troubleshooting steps.
