My 1903 upgrade is just sitting at a blank screen. There's no signal coming from the PC. The monitor is switched on but it may as well be off.

It's been like that for hours. The hard drive LED is flashing but it looks like it's just slowly ticking over, rather than being very active.

Has the upgrade failed, or should I leave it longer?

My instinct is that it hasn't worked. I've been feeling like I want to re-start the P.C. for hours, but thought I best check.

    What should I do?

Since this is your second try for an answer, and since it has been a very long time now, if it really is just a random flicker on the HDD light all this time, hard shutdown with power button. Wait at least 5 minutes, 15 better. Start it back up. It may continue, or it may roll you back. It's hard to tell. Sorry don't have a better answer.

That's okay. Thanks for responding. It was my instinct to just re-start as soon as it ended up sitting at a black screen. Just hoping it might still be okay, but I doubt I'm going to be that lucky.

I'll follow your instructions re. letting it sit for fifteen minutes or so. Thanks again.

Wow...I turned it on and it's all up to date and okay...and it's fixed a glitch that was stopping 3rd party browsers from displaying properly; so got all my links back.

Not at all. 99.99% chance absolutely nothing weird will happen. It's impossible to predict for any one given machine. Go for it. Take normal precautions, like having a good system image backup before charging in. Just common sense stuff. Then do it.

Hi there. One last question. Does one need to manually update their drivers and everything before this update?

I never manually updated any updates ever manually. I never done any bios update ever. Had this laptop for close to 3 years. Reason not touching bios is because i heard you can brick it.

But few times when i turn on or off laptop, i gotten message of windows updating and then showing the percentages etc and then it updates itself. So whenever i see it updating when i click shut down my laptop, i let it update, then it turns off.

Will any of this be an issue when i update it to 1903? I have last year's 1803 windows update which i did last year. Update had zero problems. But does this mean i can just go the update my usual way?

Someone in another thread says you need to update drivers and everything first. I assume my drivers and everything are already updated? Such as those times my laptop when turning off get message updating etc?

The only update drivers first issue I know of is very specific to Intel Storage Drivers, and does not affect many at all. No,in general you do not need to update all drivers and/or BIOS first. If, on the small chance it affects you, you will get a roll-back to 1803, and an error message indicating this was the issue. Have a good backup first, then just do it it. No way of 100% predicting your individual outcome. But, should you have any problems, just about any that could occur somebody here has been thru it.

You're in the right place. Go for it.
