Update to Windows 10 1903 failing . . . RST driver problem I think
I have an ASUS K501UX laptop. It currently has Windows 10 1803 on it, an SSD with 250 gbs and 60gb free and 12gb ram. The cpu is i7-6500 and Windows 10 is running in the 64bit configuration.
I recently got the notification that the 1803 build will phase out soon and I need to upgrade to the 1903 build. Unfortunately, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver was too old and the update won't load.
ASUS doesn't have a driver that's new enough and their tech support is useless. I tried installing just the driver from some other manufacturer but that didn't work. I have not tried to install the RST software and driver package from Intel because I don't know if its compatible with my laptop. That software changes the bios and it says that once the driver is changed it can't be uninstalled. I'm afraid that if it doesn't work I may brick my laptop.
With just the newer driver installed (version 15.9.+) I get an error message when I try to update to Windows 10 1903. The error is "PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA" CHDRT64.sys failed.
I ran skandisk and no errors were found.
So, has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to install the new build? Is it safe to install the generic software and driver from Intel?
Thanks for your help. Jim
