Now has anyone had anything go wrong or know anyone that had their computer go wrong when they did this windows 10 update?
I'm sure Google can lead you to any number of people who have had trouble with it.

And for whom the update has taken various amounts of time.

What good does that knowledge do you?

You're still in the same place. Dither and procrastinate if you wish. Or not.

Hi there. Well to those that did this update, when did you guys receive this message? Was it recent just like me or did some of you receive it much earlier?

And to those that updated, can you tell me how long the entire update took? I want to know because i dont like it if it takes very long time... then im not sure if there are issues or not. Like does this update take at least 1 hour minimum? I read it can take many hours? What is the normal amount of time it takes for this update for most ppl?

Has anyone here done this recently? I get this message everyday now and i click on remind me next time. I know i can't keep doing this because after a while, it will update itself.

So this update takes how long? So computer will go on and off few times right? Can others chime in how long is this update process? Anyone had this update go bad? If so, what did you do?

Yes, it will take at least an hour, probably several. As long as there is disk activity then leave it to get on with it, even if it appears to have 'stuck'. I have not yet seen a feature update fail, but I have seen some take a very long time.

Would not the speed of a windows update not be directly related to hardware?

My first windows 10 update was completed on a HDD and took hours. After the installation of an NVMe SSD, updates were 20-40 minutes.

Yes, but the specific case of a feature update done by using Windows Update can take an unexpectedly long time. Windows Update uses the Unified Update Platform (UUP) which has been optimised for the minimum possible download size, but at the expense of longer processing times after the download has completed.

    Microsoft said:
...one of the biggest benefits UUP brings to our customers is a reduction in download size of build updates on PCs.... Differential download packages rely on re-using files on your current OS to reconstruct the newer OS. This could include copying files as-is that have not changed between builds, or it could involve applying “binary deltas”ť or “diffs”ť to old files to generate newer files. Differential download packages are smaller and can take a shorter amount of time to download.

For a full build, we refer to this as a canonical download package... Canonical download packages tend to be larger in size and may take longer to download.

..as we roll out UUP in our retail release, users can expect their download size to decrease by approximately 35% when going from one major update of Windows to another. For retail users, the first time they get the UUP client code is part of the Creators Update, therefore, they will see the benefit of differential download packages when they go from the Creators Update to the next feature update of Windows.

I wonder if this UUP has anything to do with why a recent 1809 ISO download from ms was at 2.5MBs on a cable modem. I had tested the connection moments before at 20MBs.

Or was this a case of ms just attempting to create aggravation because I wasn't downloading 1903? I try not to be a conspiracy theorist, however; I do believe that ms played games with win7 users causing horrendously long update times.

Interesting article from March 2017, did they ever reduce update sizes?

Yes, but maybe not by as much as MS claimed. Using Windows Update the download for my feature update from 1809 to 1903 was 3.5GB (that included checking for updates during the download and install) while the 'canonical package' for 1903 (ie. the ISO) is 3.9GB (which doesn't include checking for updates).

When i did the last windows update last year, i recalled it didn't took that long. It was max 25 minutes at the most. So this one is much much longer? Does having ssd mean it updates faster as someone else said this?

The download time will depend on your internet speed. Yes, an ssd will help, but there was a lot of cpu activity too so a fast processor will help too. But this one does seem to take longer than previous ones when using windows update.

With 300Mbps internet, a 3.6GHz i7-9700K and a WD Black M.2 NVMe a time from start to desktop of 41 minutes was reported here:
