KB4507453 Update failed with error 0x80073701

I have been trying to install the above update for several days now but I still get this error message which doesn't seem to come up in google search except for deleting the files in "Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" which I've done but the update still fails and I've also tried standalone msu.

All it says is there were problems installing some updates and will try again later!

I had no problem with the update to version 1903 build 18362.207 though.

Or is there something wrong with KB4507453? So maybe I shouldn't be in too much hurry to install it?
I'm not very techie so any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Try ideas here.
Fix: Windows Update Error Code 0x80073701 - Appuals.com

And use this rather than solution 3 in that in the first instance:

    Hi dalchina,
Thanks for the reply. I have already tried solutions 1,2 and 3, the one you recommended to use instead of the original, which is a .bat file that deletes all the files in the SoftwareDistribution folder which I also did before. None of those cleared the error message.
As for solution 4 the text file says:
"Error: 87The /Image option that is specified points to a running Windows installation. To service the running operating system, use the /Online option. For more information, refer to the help by running DISM.exe /Online /?.The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"
I have no idea what that means.

Hi, you've not indicated what the troubleshooter reported.

I assume you have run the bat file in the tutorial.

Your options remaining include using the tool from post #2:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

and then an in-place upgrade repar install which keeps all progs and data, using an iso of the same build and base language and 'bitness'. Tutorial available.

I don't think Option 4 is well written, alas- usually a reliable site.

Can't see anything like yours here
    Cumulative Update KB4507453 Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.239 - July 9

The download link is given there: you could try downloading it and then manually updating using that download.

    Thanks dalchina.
I've tried all the options, windows update troubleshooter came up with nothing, sfc nothing either.
I'm going to leave it and one day I'll re-install windows.
I also downloaded the KB file and tried installing it but it failed too.
    Thanks for trying.

If you have continuing problems, first try a clean boot, then update using the msu file.

If that doesn't work, you could simply leave it 'til the next update, I suppose, and see what happens.

And if still problems, an in-place upgrade repair install, then run W Update.

That’s what I was thinking of doing to just leaving it until the next update. It will either clear itself or Microsoft will announce that they cocked up and are fixing KB4507453
    thanks again

The op says he's going to do a fresh install of 1903? Does he mean he's going to restore a previous image and then update again to 1903? I could do that too but there's no assurance that this will work.

I had an update problem recently...Windows update would fail every time. I ran an in-place install from the latest .ISO on a bootable USB, run set-up.exe, choose to keep files and apps, let it go through the motions and all was fixed....no problems after that. It took around 30/40mins.....haven't looked back since.
