Windows 10 Update just results in spinning dots - help?

    Can anyone help?

On Friday 12th July my computer decided to do an update and the result was that after about 3 hours of spinning dots... it wasn't going to happen... I managed to get it to reboot and access a system restore point and then left the PC on sleep mode when not in use over the weekend... last night it tried to do the update and again 2 hours of spinning dots... and not much happening... again did a restore...

How can I resolve this update problem?

    Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

All seems working perfectly fine with the computer.

    Hi Neil,
I had a similar issue a few days ago where Check for Updates just wouldn't work...spinning dots! Restart the PC wouldn't work for me either.. I just got the blue configuring Windows Updates screen that never ended. Shutdown still worked though. I couldn't even access system restore to try to recover.
This is what worked for me. I ran SFC scan..errors were reported. So I ran DISM to fix it. Just for good measure I then ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter. I then went back to try Windows Updates again..all sorted and PC working perfectly again.
It sounds like, just like me, you might have encountered the anti-malware platform update that Windows Update gave a few days ago. It caused corruption to Windows Defender for lots of people. At first it was thought the .NET framework cumulative update was the cause but it was the Anti Malware update that was the issue. DISM had to be used to repair it. Strangely though some were unaffected.

    Thanks
I have now managed to resolve it... similar to above...
I managed to restore to an earlier date to get online...
cleared files to create some more memory (although it didn't seem low) including temporary files.
    Ran Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner
Downloaded the update rather than close down and update... and it worked...
