Windows Feature Update 1803 repeatedly fails

For over a year Feature Update 1803 has failed to install. Every few weeks (sometimes more frequently) it tries to install and fails. It tries several times and then stops for awhile before trying again. The initial error says Memory Management. In the update history it says:

    "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803 x64 2019-06B
    Failed to install on ‎6/‎18/‎2019 - 0xc1900101"

I've run the trouble shooter and it didn't work.

Now Windows is telling me it needs to restart to install an update. This is the 5th time in the last 24 hours that it will have tried and failed to install this update and it ties up my PC while doing so.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Windows 10 updates is insane.

Hi Gary. Welcome to the TenForums @Gary S 1964

    No arguments from me.

Here is everything you wanted to know about 0xC1900101

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/win...res#0xc1900101

The general stuff is uninstall all third party Antivirus products, disconnect everything not needed for basics operations, uninstall unnecessary software.

As there are several boxes with their own resolution which supplemental code are you getting with 0xc1900101?

You might even try the upgrade from a clean boot. (Not install, boot)

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

If you set your connection to metered it should stop it downloading as a first step.

You should be able to get a copy of 1803 here. If you download an ISO you can then mount it by right clicking and run setup.

Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

It has helped some members to run an inplace repair with their current version before attempting the upgrade. What version are you on? You would use the same process and site above. Download ISO needed, mount by right clicking, run setup.

Thanks for the advice. I generally do a clean install about every two years. However I switched out my hard drives for SSDs about 18 months ago and did a clean install at that time. I have pretty much decided that is the way to go.

1803 must be getting desperate as it use to leave me alone for a couple of months before trying again but the last week it has been trying to install once or twice a day. I have a pending restart right now and it did one earlier this morning which of course failed.

So I assume you are on V1709.

Have you tried an inplace repair using a 1709 iso?

    If you navigate to $Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther

Can you zip up all the files named CompaData_xxxxx_xx_xx .xml and post the zip file.

    where xxxx_xx_xx is a date / time / characters.
